As a parent and grandparent you quickly learn that the children you bring into this world have to have a strong self belief and aspirations for the future. Luckily I am in a position to provide emotionally and financially for my family, but at times you do consider if you have done enough?
Being Aboriginal my family ties are strong and is my power base. I have grown up to belief that you need your family more then you need money and material gains. So when I felt I needed a hand as a father, I approached family and they were always there for me, and when I'm talking family I'm talking 'big mob' of family, the extended family. The world moves on very quickly and with progression comes changes, but some things never change. And one of those is for our children to have a strong self belief and aspirations for the future. This changing world has become more richer, diverse and complicated with influences on our children much more then I can imagine when I was a child. To prepare our children for the future, we need more then our own resources and our families. To give our children the best opportunity in life is to reach out to services within our community, significantly Early Childhood Centers that are safe and rich with experiences for young people. I have a close working relationship with one if these centres, the Kambu Children and Family Center where children are received into a culturally safe and caring centre where children feel they are part of a bigger family, where the statement "Together - We make a family" is true. Here is a series of vignettes on the programs this important service provides to our community. Kambu Children and Family Center Video 10/21/2022 12:17:04 am
